Communication is the most powerful tool a psychiatric nurse should have. It is the basis of therapeutic–nurse patient relationship. Communication is a complex process and needs practice to use it effectively. Therapeutic communication techniques are methods used to encourage patients to interact in a manner that promotes their growth and moves them toward their treatment goals.

Before procedure
· Prepare the possible questions to be asked/ topics to be discussed.
· Prepare the necessary materials needed.
During the procedure
· Introduce yourself to the patient.
· Maintain eye contact.
· Allow patient to talk.
After procedure
· End the conversation politely.
